You know how to drive a car. But do you know how to drive a performance car? Ford wants to ensure that you do, and that’s why it’s offering complimentary driving instruction to owners of the new 2013-2014 Ford Focus ST and 2014 Ford Fiesta ST through the Octane Academy Driving Experience!

The driving program was inspired by “Octane Academy,” the competition TV series with pro drivers like Ken Block and Tanner Foust. On the show, amateur drivers compete for an opportunity to launch their own racing careers, with the pros putting them through the paces to determine a winner.

Stretching from Widetrack Road in Pontiac, Michigan all the way to Mustang Alley in Ferndale, tens of thousands of cars packed historic Woodward Avenue and the parking lots and side streets surrounding it. The annual Woodward Dream Cruise brought people from all over the world to relish the sights, smells and sounds of the car culture.

The air is filled with the pungent smell of grilled onions from hamburger stands, mixed with a variety of automotive aromas, and the sounds of engines drown out Motown music being played on the car radios.

At first glance, the Ford EcoBoost® and laser weapons systems may not seem like they’d have anything in common. But look closer and things like consistent performance, mechanics and engineering rise to the surface. Look even closer and you’ll see Mike Kluzner. He’s an in-house software engineer with Ford, who says that he got his start designing laser weapon systems for the former Soviet Union, capable of disabling the navigation systems of enemy satellites.

Jamal Hameedi has a pretty cool reason to show up for work each day: “To make the greatest performance vehicles available on the market, regardless of price.”  You’re probably wondering exactly what kind of gig Jamal must have if he gets paid to think about performance vehicles. He’s the Global Performance Vehicle Chief Engineer for Ford, which means, “I get to play with fast cars and trucks for a living.”

We were excited that the upcoming 2014 Transit Connect was shown off at the Maker Faire in Dearborn last weekend – Ford Social has a video and article all about it!

What do you get when you let loose a group of passionate engineers, builders, crafters and artists to collaborate and build? The Maker Faire, which came to Dearborn last weekend!

For the uninitiated, the Maker Faire is an event created by Make magazine that’s aimed at celebrating the do-it-yourself culture. It’s filled with displays that showcase the imagination and innovation skills of a variety of “makers.”

Back in 1951, conversations began about having a “true Ford sports car.” It wasn’t long before “paper sports cars” were created in the Ford design studios in an effort to have this new car in production for the 1955 model year. May 1, 1953, became the target date for a full-size clay model of this future Ford: the Thunderbird. But it wasn’t actually until May 18 of that same year when a complete, painted clay model that closely resembled what would eventually become the final version of the first T-bird was finally done.

Creating future vehicles by way of sketch and clay model continues today. The process allows engineers and designers to experiment with everything from looks to aerodynamics. Even when it came to reducing noise in the new Ford Escape, engineers made changes to the vehicle’s shape, notably the mirrors and A-pillar, during the clay model stage to test theories and validate expected results.

Susan Berry had never won anything in her life. But that was before she was handed the keys to a brand-new 2013 C-MAX Energi Plug-In Hybrid. Susan was selected as the winner of the 2013 MyEnergi Lifestyle Sweepstakes.

Prior to learning about the Sweepstakes on the Katie Couric talk show “Katie,” Susan and her family had been tinkering with ways to reduce their energy waste.

Any vehicle that can hang around for over 65 years is bound to sell quite a few units. But the Ford F-Series pickup line recently celebrated an eye-popping milestone as the keys to the 33 millionth truck were handed over to a long-time customer.

Sam Loria purchased his first Ford in 1969 and has been faithful to the company ever since. It was a match made in truck heaven when Sam took delivery of his brand-new 2013 Ford F-150 Platinum at Sam Pack’s Five Star Ford in Plano, Texas.
