We love classic cars at Borgman, but who doesn’t? If you didn’t get a chance to go to the Woodward Dream Cruise, check out this article from Ford Social all about the recent Detroit event!
Stretching from Widetrack Road in Pontiac, Michigan all the way to Mustang Alley in Ferndale, tens of thousands of cars packed historic Woodward Avenue and the parking lots and side streets surrounding it. The annual Woodward Dream Cruise brought people from all over the world to relish the sights, smells and sounds of the car culture.
The air is filled with the pungent smell of grilled onions from hamburger stands, mixed with a variety of automotive aromas, and the sounds of engines drown out Motown music being played on the car radios.
The nameplates read like a who’s who of Ford – Thunderbird, Galaxy, Fairlaine, Gran Torino, Falcon, Ranchero, Edsel and Mustang. Not all the action was on Woodward itself, some real gems were parked on side streets or in club displays lining the main drag. We spied a 1972 Ford Maverick with big-and-littles and something interesting hidden under the hood tucked away on a side street. A row of treasured Model As lined Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham. A vintage Ford GT cruised by a row of red, white and black Ford GT cars parked next to European exotics and the latest high-performance offerings from the other car companies. Here and there, Thunderbirds flocked together, conjuring up memories of drive-in movies and other bits of American car culture.
Even classic cop cars were in the mix, from an unmarked Crown Vic with a donut box in the rear window and a license plate that read “Sgt Fri” to a 1976 Gran Torino mocked up like a memorable TV car, complete with white zigzag stripe and a “bubblegum” polic light on the passenger side of the roof.
Not all the amazing Ford vehicles in the cruise were vintage. In the Ford display, Fiesta and Focus ST offerings drew crowds. A 2008 Shelby GT500®owner and racer Kash Singh enthusiastically answered questions about his Mustang, one of the cars featured in Mustang Alley. Not only had Kash cruised Woodward Avenue all week in his car, he has driven it to Pikes Peak in Colorado the last three years to compete in the International Hill Climb Races.
With visitors from all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Asia, Europe and Africa, the Woodward Dream Cruise is a must see event for any fan of the automobile. Kudos to all the Ford owners and fans who came out for the 19th annual Woodward Dream Cruise!
