So Many Mustangs, So Little Time

August 20th, 2012

Ford Mustang ModelsWhat’s your favorite Mustang? Is it a red convertible, or would you love to fly down a highway in a Performance White Boss 302? With so many options to choose from, it can be a little daunting trying to pick just one. And Ford keeps making that choice harder by introducing even more custom Mustang models to the fold.

The Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, for example, is the purpose-built track Mustang. Powered by a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine, it features brake-cooling ducts, a front air-splitter and R-compound tires. This Mustang begs to be pushed to the limit on the track.

For the serious collector, Ford has even created unique Mustang models. One recent example is the “Red Tails” Mustang, inspired by the iconic P-51 Mustang fighter plane that was famously flown by the Tuskegee Airmen, the United States’ first African-American military airmen.

The engineer and design team at Ford started with a 2013 Mustang GT to create the Red Tails Mustang. It features a polished aluminum appearance, accented with Race Red and School Bus Yellow. This creates a look consistent with the P-51 fighter plane’s red tail cues and the logos and markings of the Tuskegee Airmen.

On the inside, the Red Tails Mustang features a unique navigation screen, RECARO® seats embroidered with the Red Tails logo, and puddle lamps that project Red Tails imagery when the doors open.

Fitted with a Ford Racing 2.3-liter twin-screw Whipple supercharger, a unique side exhaust, Forgiato 20-inch wheels, GT500® Brembo™ brakes and a rear diffuser, the Red Tails Mustang will exude power and performance.

This car was recently sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Oshkosh 2012 — the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. All proceeds from the car donation and sale will benefit the EAA Young Eagles program, which has provided free introductory flights to more than 1.6 million young people since 1992, helping inspire and motivate the next generation of leaders, aviators and innovators.

So whether it’s a track-built Boss 302 or a collector’s dream like the Red Tails Mustang, Ford has made choosing your favorite Mustang a difficult decision.
