2013 Ford F-150: A Rugged Truck for Rugged Jobs

June 20th, 2012

When Ford unveils something new, there tends to be an interesting story behind it. In this case, it’s a new package for the new F-150, called Special Service Vehicle. The SSV Package allows the 2013 F-150 to become even more adaptable to unique tasks.

If you’re not familiar with the SSV name, it’s a unique Ford package aimed at government, municipal and commercial fleets – law enforcement, fire-fighting and state park patrols, to name but a few.

Buyers of an SSV can configure their F-150 in in many configurations to meet their fleet needs. The interior, by the way, has a service-tailored layout. The seating is a 40/20/40 split bench seat; the center seat section is omitted. This creates extra space for in-cab installations, such as firearms.

An option package includes a high-capacity 220-amp alternator (to meet the notable electrical needs of these types of folks), and is available for the SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations. The SSV will have the fuel-saving six-speed automatic, and is available with either the EcoBoost® 3.5-liter V6 or the 5.0-liter V8.
